City
Employees Tour
Several
Bowling Green city employees were given a special tour of
the railcars Tuesday July 13, 2002. City Manager Chuck
Coates held a city employee meeting at the Depot that included
a pre-meeting railcar tour for those interested.
Even though restoration of the cars is in progress, many requests
are being received to tour the cars and catch a glimpse of
history in the making.
Limited scheduling is available only on special request for
railcar tours during restoration as teams of volunteers continue
to work around the hot August weather trying to get as much
of the exterior completed prior to winter weather.
RESTORATION PROGRESS

frames.
These metal frames which must be replaced were originally
formed with a die that is no longer available. The
door frame has 5 bends making fabricating to the original
specifications difficult. Through innovative thinking,
the frames have been reproduced by making three bends in
one piece of metal and two in a separate piece and welding
the two pieces together. Dean shared with the Committee
the sample. The finished door frame reproductions will be
very impressive.
BGKY.ORG
LINKS WEB
City Manager Chuck Coates has placed a link to our Web
site on the front page of the city's Web site! According
to Coates, the city Web site receives numerous hits from
visitors daily and will greatly increase the awareness of
our site.
Since our Web site is a sub-domain of bg.ky.net, it is rather
cumbersome to provide our Web address to others due to its
length. Now
|
|
you
can simply provide the city's Web address, www.bgky.org,
and a link is on the first page in the lower right. This links
you directly to our site!
POWER
PROGRESS
A
couple of items to report on getting electricity to the rail
cars. Jim Lockwood is busy preparing a temporary circuit
from the depot building to the cars for restoration crews.
The junction box with circuits for the lamp post receptacles
will be rewired temporarily to enable powering equipment for
restoration while we wait to get permanent service from BGMU.
A meeting was held Friday August 16, 2002, with BGMU engineers
and Jim along with Jim Bullington where plans were discussed
to bring power service overhead from the 6th street side to
the cars. This will require the approval of the land
owner on the 6th street side and approval from the highway
department. The process could take 90 days.
