How the Cars Were Moved to the Display Track

The caboose, sleeper, and diner cars were brought from a staging area at Memphis Junction to the depot. The RJ Corman Railroad derailment crews lifted each car from the main track and walked the cars over to the display track using four special cranes. Since there are no switches to the display track, CSX closed the main line for an eight hour period while the Corman crew worked non-stop moving the cars.

The Presidential car was too old to make the trip to Bowling Green by rail and was brought by roadway by house movers. The two 3 axle trucks were brought separately on a flat bed truck and hoisted over to the track by a 45 ton wrecker. Actual manpower pushed the trucks to the final resting place under the car. The cars will once again be moved when an engine is added in the future so that the passenger train will be headed south with the diner and sleeper followed by the presidential observation car at the north end. The caboose will be parked separately behind the depot to be used for special functions.
