Railfest 2003
L&N Depot
9am-4pm May 12, 2003

The second annual Railfest celebration at the restored, historic L&N Depot located at 401 Kentucky Street in Bowling Green, Kentucky is set to occur on Sasturday, May 10 from 9 AM until 4 PM.  An assortment of activities and displays will be available free of charge including railroad-related and themed festivities, informational booths, displays, tours, and games.

Tours of the historic railcars that are in the process of being restored by a group of local citizens interested in the historic value of the railroad to our area will take place throughout the day. There are currently four such railcars on display, the Towering Pine  a former L&N deluxe sleeper, a caboose, L&N Business Car #353 and a former diner on the Southern Pacific Railroad, which will eventually be repainted in official L&N colors and renamed the Duncan Hines in honor of the famous resident of Bowling Green.

A model railroad display will be inside the depot as well as informational booths about railroad-related items, services, programs and groups that are involved in preserving the railroad heritage of this area.

Local Atmos Energy Personnel will provide free hotdogs and free soft drinks will be made available through the kindness of Western Kentucky Coca Cola.

The first Dinner on the Diner features authentic railroad recipes prepared to perfection by the students of award winning Chef Mike Riggs.  This year there is only one seating available for the first dinner served on the "Duncan Hines" Dining car at the Historic RailPark .  Chef Riggs has chosen a  Garden Salad with a Southern Pacific Railway dressing, pork chops Normandy a recipe of the Baltimore & Ohio RR, French style peas a Chesapeake & Ohio RR recipe, Chantilly Crepes a BG & TC Culinary line by Rita Roland.  There will be a private tour of the depot and the railcars prior to dinner and coffee in the lobby of the depot following dinner with special exhibits.  Reserve your seat early, only 48 seats are available!
