Leadership BG Class of 2026 Explores the RailPark

The Historic RailPark & Train Museum was proud to be one of the featured stops during the Leadership Bowling Green Class of 2026 Economy & Tourism Day. This annual program offers participants an inside look at the businesses and cultural assets shaping South Central Kentucky’s future, and we were honored to share our story as part of their journey.

When the group arrived, they were welcomed by Executive Director Jamie Johnson, who shared a brief history of the L&N Depot as we approach its 100th anniversary in 2025. Jamie highlighted how the depot once served as Bowling Green’s gateway to the world and how its preservation continues to fuel tourism, education, and community pride today.

Following the introduction, the class toured the museum and historic railcars with guidance from RailPark team member Jessica Warren. Participants learned how rail transportation shaped the development of Bowling Green, moving people, goods, and ideas that helped the region grow. Many experienced the restored railcars for the first time, stepping inside the Presidential Office Car, dining spaces, and sleeper compartments that offer a vivid look into the golden age of rail travel.

As part of Economy & Tourism Day, Jamie also shared the important role the RailPark plays in Bowling Green’s tourism industry. From welcoming thousands of guests each year to hosting events, educational programs, and community experiences, the RailPark serves as both a historic landmark and an active contributor to local economic vitality.

We are grateful to the Bowling Green Area Chamber of Commerce and the Leadership BG program for including the Historic RailPark as part of this year’s itinerary. Engaging with emerging leaders is an important part of our mission, and we look forward to welcoming future classes to learn, explore, and celebrate the history preserved within our depot.
