Preserving Memory, Inspiring Action
By Jamie Johnson, Executive Director
As May draws to a close, we’re reflecting on what this month has meant for the Historic RailPark & Train Museum—and for our community.
May is National Preservation Month, and it’s also the time we pause as a nation to honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice. At the RailPark, where the 100-year-old L&N Depot once served as a hub for soldiers departing for service, these themes of remembrance and preservation are always close to our hearts.
This year, our efforts to honor and preserve history have taken on new energy—and we have exciting momentum heading into summer.
Window Restoration Campaign: Let the Light In
We’ve launched a major fundraising effort to restore over 50 historic windows in our beloved 1925 depot. Many of the metal windows are original to the building, while the wood replacements from the 1990s are now badly deteriorated—some requiring extensive repair, others full replacement.
Our goal is to raise $155,000 to complete the project and protect the depot for generations to come.
Donors who contribute $100 or more will receive a limited-edition keepsake ornament featuring a custom design of the depot—a symbol of the light you’re helping to restore.
