The Nutcracker at SkyPAC!
One of the most timeless Christmas traditions people celebrate is seeing the Nutcracker. The Nutcracker is a ballet filled with fairy tales set on Christmas Eve. The story is centered around a nutcracker that has come to life and befriended by a girl, who aids in conquering the evil mouse king. The original The Nutcracker ballet debuted in Russia, but has become integral to the American Christmas experience.
Every year, companies across the country begin to prepare for their performance of The Nutcracker. As dancers become more skilled, each year they dedicate their efforts to playing The Nutcracker’s lead, Clara. Children participate by playing snowflakes, soldiers, and dragons. The average Nutcracker production takes at least 10 weeks of preparation, where dancers will rehearse for countless hours to deliver a magical Christmas experience.
“NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet” is a ballet company that has been performing the classic Christmas ballet for over 30 years. The company has traveled across the entire globe, performing The Nutcracker in places as far away as Kazakhstan. The company performs, on average, 100 shows throughout November and December. They also implement a “Dance with Us” program that allows local ballerinas to perform alongside the Vaganova-trained ballerinas. While the company tours throughout North America to destinations like New York City, Los Angelos, and Puerto Rico, the “NUTCRACKER! Magical Christmas Ballet” also stops in Bowling Green to perform!
TONIGHT: SkyPAC’s curtain call will bring forward the special Christmas experience as the professional company performs The Nutcracker. SkyPAC’s theatre allows for guests to sit in “the nosebleeds” on the balcony, or a lower tier like the mezzanine or the upper orchestra. For a more intimate experience, guests can observe the ballet from a box or be immersed in the action in the lower orchestra.
