Working as an Event Intern at the Historic RailPark & Train Museum in Bowling Green, Kentucky has already been an amazing experience. I am originally from Nashville, Tennessee, and I am currently a student at Western Kentucky University, where I am studying Hospitality Management with a focus on Event Planning. I will be a senior this fall, so having the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the hospitality and events industry is incredibly valuable as I prepare for my future career.
Last Saturday, I had the opportunity to work at my very first event at the RailPark, the Annual BG Wine Fest. For the event, I was assigned to registration, where I helped guests sign in, complete their purchases, and kept the line moving as smoothly as possible. At the beginning of the event, things were a little hectic because so many people arrived at once. The lines became long quickly, and everyone on the team had to work together to make sure guests were taken care of. Even though it was busy, we stayed organized, communicated well, and worked through the rush.
As the event continued, everything became more manageable, and the registration process ran much more smoothly. It was rewarding to see guests enjoying themselves while supporting the Historic RailPark & Train Museum. Being part of such a well-attended community event showed me how much planning, teamwork, and organization go into hosting a successful festival.
One of my favorite parts of this internship is the people I work with. Everyone at the Historic RailPark has been so welcoming, supportive, and encouraging from day one. They have made me feel like part of the team, and I have enjoyed learning from each of them. Their willingness to answer my questions and help me grow has made this experience even more meaningful.
I truly love working at the Historic RailPark & Train Museum. Every day allows me to learn something new, whether it’s about event operations, customer service, social media, or the history of the museum itself. This internship is helping me build the skills and confidence I need for a career in the hospitality and events industry.
Overall, I think my first event went well. Although the beginning was a little stressful because of the large crowd, it turned into a successful and enjoyable experience. I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of the Historic RailPark & Train Museum team, and I look forward to helping with many more events throughout my internship. I am excited to continue growing both personally and professionally while gaining real-world experience that will prepare me for my future after graduating from Western Kentucky University.
