Our esteemed friends with the sHOw Modular Model Railroad Club are on a conquest. That would be to break a world record… well, again. Breaking their model layout back in 2016, they’re working again to break it again ten years later.
The sHOw Modular Railroad Club is a model railroad club. In addition to the modular layout, the club operates a permanent HO scale layout at the Historic RailPark & Train Museum at the old L&N Depot in Bowling Green, KY. The group participates in annual events to showcase their layouts, have train sales, and spread awareness of their club. This year, they will be attending a model railroad convention for the very first time. To break a record, they must prepare for months in advance.
The group was hard at work at the RailPark setting up their layout to ensure everything is ready to go for the NMRA Convention in Chattanooga, TN, come July. Upon talking to Mike Dowell, sHOw Club President, he was very excited to be able to do something like this. He said, “This is the first year we’ll be headed to the convention. We haven’t done anything like this since about 2016. We’ll be there in July, but the actual layout run will be August 1st and 2nd.”
When asked about the criteria of the model, Mike also had this to say, “It can be anything, just looked for clubs and other individuals to be part of it.”
The door was wide open to really play with the elements. Scoping through the model, you can really see the details. The towns, the people, the river, the weather elements, and of course, the train track. 7 of the members worked together to be able to bring this to life. Some worked on the scenery, some on the wiring; some just placed it together like a puzzle. Each has an important role to play.
It’s evident that this group truly values craftsmanship and the beauty of trains. That’s why it is such a treat for us all to see their vision come to fruition. All of us at the RailPark will be cheering them on as they prep for the convention. We cannot wait to see them succeed and brag home about the record-breaking model!
