When you were a kid, and your teacher announced you were going on a field trip next week, you probably didn’t give it a second thought. All you could think about was how excited you were to get out of the classroom for the day and explore somewhere new. The joy of being with your friends and not learning from a book. You have vivid memories of how the day went. It was the best part of school.
A lot of children cannot experience that right now. A lot of schools are facing the unfortunate effect of funding. Those kids may not have experienced learning outside of the classroom walls. Here at the Historic RailPark, we are fighting to change that. For KY Gives Day on May 12th, 2026, we are asking everyone to donate to our field trip funding. We want classes to be able to learn about the rich history here and then run to the bell once they finish the tour.
Giving children the opportunity to learn outside of the room, being amazed at Owney, seeing a train in person, and remembering why being a kid is so special. The memories they make with their classmates will live on forever. Those memories can also turn into a career path they never knew existed. We can inspire them to find a new love.
We all loved being kids, and we never knew the faces of what made our field trips so special. Let’s do our part to make sure those kids never have to wonder if they will get to go on a field trip for the school year. For this KY Gives Day, let’s band together to give them something to dream about the next day!
