A Look Back at the VCCA in Bowling Green

While digging through our photo archives recently, we uncovered a fantastic image that instantly transported us back in time. Taken in April 2017, the photo shows a lineup of stunning vintage automobiles posed in front of our historic L&N Depot with our railcars serving as the perfect backdrop. The scene was captured during the Vintage Chevrolet Club of America’s (VCCA) 17th Annual Southern Spring Tour, which brought members from across the region to Bowling Green to celebrate their passion for classic Chevrolets.

We’re grateful to Dick Webber, a longtime car and train enthusiast, who preserved several photos from that visit. His images are featured throughout this post and highlight just how special that day was for both the VCCA and the Historic RailPark.

The Vintage Chevrolet Club of America, founded in 1961, is dedicated to the restoration and preservation of Chevrolets of all models and years. With members spanning the globe, the VCCA fosters community and passion for classic vehicles through tours, shows, and gatherings. Their 2017 Southern Spring Tour in Bowling Green was a shining example—bringing together people, cars, and heritage in one unforgettable visit.

It’s no surprise that the VCCA chose Bowling Green as the site of its 17th Southern Spring Tour. Our city is home to Beech Bend Raceway Park, a legendary track that has hosted drag races, car shows, and family fun for decades, as well as the National Corvette Museum, a world-class destination that celebrates America’s sports car, the Corvette, which has been built right here in Bowling Green since 1981. Together, these attractions solidify Bowling Green as a must-visit city for car enthusiasts and clubs like the VCCA. In fact, the National Corvette Museum continues to host events and gatherings that Chevrolet and Corvette lovers from around the world, including VCCA members, would enjoy.

Here at the Historic RailPark & Train Museum, we are proud to play a part in this visitor experience. Our historic depot and vintage railcars provide a one-of-a-kind backdrop for groups like the VCCA, as well as families and travelers from near and far. And while the attractions draw people here, it is our Southern hospitality that makes them want to come back—welcoming every guest like family.

As we reflect on that day in 2017, we are reminded how fortunate we are to live in a community that values history, celebrates visitors, and offers countless ways to explore heritage. Whether you arrive by rail, car, or simply curiosity, Bowling Green is ready to welcome you.
